Templeton Rye 6 Year is a rye whiskey aged for six years in charred new American oak barrels, in a 75cl bottle at 45.75% ABV. The mashbill is 95% rye and 5% malted barley.
The whiskey is distilled at MGP Ingredients in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, then taken to Templeton, Iowa, where purified water and a proprietary flavouring formula are added before bottling. The brand draws on the Prohibition-era whiskey once made illegally around the Iowa town.
Butterscotch, floral sweetness, rye spice and pastry notes lead the nose. The palate is fruity and sweet, with brown sugar, cinnamon and apple mint. The finish is moderate, with sweet cinnamon turning herbal, almost dill-like.
