The Balvenie 12 Year Old The Sweet Toast of American Oak is a single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. Apprentice Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie wanted a fruitier, sweeter Balvenie and brought in virgin oak barrels from Kentucky. These were deeply toasted at The Balvenie Cooperage and filled with whisky aged in ex-bourbon barrels.
The nose is malty, with sweet fudge, citrus and oak vanilla, and spicy notes of ginger and cinnamon. Candied orange and lemon peel, vanilla toffee, butterscotch and blossom honey come through on the palate. The finish is rich and malty, with gentle oak vanilla and subtle spice.
