The Balvenie – 12 Years Double Wood

The Balvenie Double Wood is a 12 year old Speyside single malt matured in two kinds of cask. It spends its first years in traditional American oak barrels that previously held American whiskey and were charred inside. A selection of these casks is then married in a tun for six months, before the whisky rests for a further six to twelve months in an ex-Oloroso sherry cask. The American oak brings a light, honeyed sweetness and vanilla on the nose, while the sherry cask adds nuts, various spices and dried fruit.
