The Balvenie 12 Years Old DoubleWood is a Speyside single malt bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. It was developed in 1993 by malt master David Stewart.
The whisky matures first in American oak casks, then moves for about nine months into European Oloroso sherry casks, followed by three to four months in a large oak marrying vessel.
The nose has grain, nuts and spice, with honey, raisins and grapes. The palate is medium-bodied and sweet, with vanilla, gentle spice, a little peat, dried fruit, cinnamon and oak. The finish opens with a brief spiciness before turning slightly dry and sweet.
