The Balvenie 15 Year Old Madeira Cask (70cl, 43%)

This is a 15 year old single malt from Balvenie, finished in casks that previously held Madeira wine. It is bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered, as a limited edition. Malt Master David C. Stewart took up Madeira casks for finishing after enjoying time exploring the Madeira region and its wines. The Madeira tradition goes back to ships carrying the wine around the New World, where the heat of the sun naturally sweetened the casks' contents. The result is a lively, summery whisky with a lighter character.
