The Balvenie – 17 Years Old DoubleWood (70cl, 43%)

This is The Balvenie DoubleWood, a 17 year old single malt bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It reflects Malt Master David Stewart's return to consecutive maturation in two types of cask, often called cask finishing, in the year he marked 50 years at The Balvenie, 2012. The whisky is matured first in American oak barrels, which add soft, sweet vanilla notes. It then moves to European oak sherry casks, where the second period of ageing brings rich, spicy flavours and greater depth and fullness.
