The Balvenie PortWood is a 21 year old single malt, bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. A marriage of Balvenie whisky is transferred into port casks, or pipes, that previously held port wine.
The Malt Master samples it regularly to judge how much character the port casks add, so the malt develops while keeping its original character.
It is bright amber, with a nose of ripe raisin and fruit over a nutty dryness. The palate is creamy and silky with fruit, honey and spice, and the finish is long, gentle and nutty.
