The Balvenie 25 Year Old Rare Marriages is a Speyside single malt, bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle. Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE chose casks aged for at least twenty-five years, mainly American oak ex-bourbon barrels together with European oak sherry casks.
Rather than letting one cask style lead, the whisky is married in a traditional tun, and it has a deep golden amber colour.
The nose has runny honey, crystallised ginger and orchard fruit with polished oak. On the palate are vanilla cream, baked apple, poached pear and cinnamon, with soft sherry sweetness. The finish is long, with honeyed oak, warming spice and a little cocoa.
