The Balvenie – 27 Year Old Distant Shores

The Balvenie 27 Year Old Distant Shores is a limited edition Speyside single malt from the Stories collection. It was matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, then finished in casks that once held Caroni rum from Trinidad. The finish began with Honorary Ambassador John Barrett's discovery of Caroni rum, from a distillery that closed in 2003. He introduced samples to Malt Master David C. Stewart, who selected the casks for the experiment. The nose offers muscovado sugar and manuka honey with soft fruit and spice. The palate is velvety and sweet, moving to treacle toffee, old leather and deep oak tannins, followed by a long, sweet, oily finish.
