The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt in a 75cl bottle, matured for at least 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and refill oak casks.
It then spends nine months in first-fill Spanish oak Oloroso sherry casks, a wood-finishing approach the distillery is known for pioneering.
The nose combines sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry with honey, vanilla and gentle spice. On the palate it is smooth and mellow, with nutty sweetness, cinnamon and sweet fruit above a layer of sherry oak. The finish is long and warm, with oak spice and sweet dried fruit.
