The Hearach First Fill Oloroso Cask Matured Batch 3 (70cl, 46%)

The Hearach Oloroso Cask Matured is a single malt from the Isle of Harris, here in its third batch, in a 70cl bottle at 46%. It is the distillery's second whisky expression, matured in first fill Oloroso butts from the sherry makers José y Miguel Martín in Jerez. Their dry, dark and nutty wine gives the spirit a bold richness. It is non-chill filtered and has no artificial colouring. Each batch keeps a consistent flavour profile, with subtle variation from the choice of casks and the length of the marrying period. This batch is described as showing dried fruit, sweet apple and clove on the nose. The palate is spicy and fruity, with toasted almonds that soften into buttery vanilla, then a balance of peat with hints of sea salt.
