The Hearach is the first whisky produced at the Isle of Harris Distillery, bottled at 46%. The name means 'person from Harris' in Gaelic, and the distillery opened in 2015.
It is made from Scottish Concerto barley peated to a light 12-15ppm, and matured in first-fill bourbon barrels from Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace, together with Oloroso and Fino sherry butts.
The notes describe gentle peat smoke and toasted maltiness, with apple sauce, machair flowers, mixed spices, candied ginger, vanilla and honeycomb, and a long finish of clotted cream and new leather.
