The Hearach is the Inaugural Release from the Isle of Harris, here in its sixth batch, bottled at 46%. The name is Gaelic for a person from Harris, and the project brought distilling and jobs back to one of the most remote islands of the Outer Hebrides.
The single malt was matured in ex-Bourbon casks from Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace, with a share of ex-Sherry Oloroso and Fino casks. The water comes from the Abhainn Cnoc a Charrain.
The nose has coastal air, light peat, baked apple, salted caramel and heather honey. The palate brings gentle peat smoke, candied ginger, vanilla cream, citrus and a mineral, salty note. The finish is long, with leather, sweet smoke and melted butter.
