The London Distillery Company – Yesteryear English Whisky (70cl, 52.3%)

Yesteryear is a six-year-old London rye whisky bottled at 52.3% ABV, in a release of only 188 bottles. It matured first in English oak casks, then was finished in first-fill Oloroso sherry octaves and a refill sherry quarter cask. It was made from what remained of LV-1767, released in 2018 as the first new whisky distilled in London for over a century. That whisky went back into wood for a further two years. The nose offers Seville oranges, red berries, clove, cinnamon, toffee and chocolate. The palate brings marmalade, buttery toffee, rye spice, malty biscuit, toasted almonds and cocoa nibs. The finish is cinnamon and rye with berry fruit tea and a peppery note from the cask.
