This is a 12-year-old Speyside single malt from The Macallan, bottled at 55% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It belongs to the Sherry Oak Collection and was matured mainly in sherry-seasoned European oak casks.
The stronger bottling is meant to bring out the fruit, spice and oak of the house style and to give the whisky a fuller texture. The colour is amber.
The nose has sticky dates, cherry compote, cinnamon, cacao nibs and dried orange slices. On the palate are rich oak, sultanas, stem ginger, star anise and mandarin, with dark chocolate coated espresso beans. The finish is long and warming, with treacle toffee, mocha and sweet cinnamon.
