This is a 21 year old single malt from The Macallan, one of five whiskies in the Colour Collection, a range made for travel retail. The series marks the return of age statements to this part of the range. It is bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle and comes in a wooden box.
It matures in American oak casks seasoned with sherry from Jerez, with a small share of European oak. Its warm bronze colour comes only from the spirit and the oak casks. The packaging was designed with graphic designer David Carson, who drew on Jerez, its vineyards and its sherry culture.
The nose offers creme brulee, candied orange and lemon with sweet oak and caramelised pineapple. The palate brings tropical fruit, candied ginger, coffee cream, hazelnuts and dark chocolate with orange. The finish is medium in length, ending in oak spice.
