The First Light is the fourth release in The Macallan's A Night on Earth series, which looks at how communities around the world welcome the new year. This one turns to New Zealand, with artwork by local illustrator Bonnie Brown.
The Macallan Whisky Mastery Team matured it in sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks, with a sparing inclusion of casks that once held bourbon. It is bottled at 43% ABV.
The nose is toasted sweet oak with caramelised marshmallows, icing sugar, vanilla extract and berry compote. The palate brings rich caramel, mellow baking spices, vanilla ice cream, pavlova, stone fruits, and hints of coconut and manuka honey. The finish is sweet and fruity with mellow spice and toasted oak.
