Intense Arabica is the second release in the Macallan Harmony Collection. Whisky maker Steven Bremner welcomed coffee roasters and growers to the estate, aiming for a single malt that pairs well with a good espresso.
The whisky is a vatting of American and European oak casks seasoned with sherry, bottled at 44%. Its box is made from coffee bean husks discarded during roasting.
The nose opens with tiramisu and freshly ground coffee, then dark chocolate, sweet almond, vanilla oak and blackberry. The palate recalls strong espresso with a shaving of dark chocolate, alongside Brazil nuts, blackberry, vanilla and sweet spice. The finish is long and warm, with roasted coffee.
