This is a 40 year old single malt from The Macallan, made in Speyside and bottled at 47.5% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It belongs to the Red Collection and was matured in sherry-seasoned oak, with European oak casks adding structure and a refined bitterness. Its deep mahogany colour is natural, drawn from long maturation.
Dried figs, dates and raisins lead the nose, with polished oak, dark chocolate, orange peel and warming spice. The palate is full-bodied, with stewed fruits, toffee, clove and nutmeg. The finish is long, with cocoa, sweet spice and gentle oak dryness.
