The Nine Springs Muscatel Cask is a German single malt bottled at cask strength, 54.9% ABV, in a 50cl bottle. It comes from the No 9 Spirituosen Manufaktur in Leinefelde-Worbis, Thuringia, and takes its name from the nine springs around the town.
The whisky first matured in a bourbon cask, then spent most of its maturation in Muscatel casks.
The nose is floral and fragrant, with vanilla, gorse and gooseberry pie. The palate is surprisingly soft for its strength, with a fruity sweetness; a little water brings out meringue and lemon cake, and it turns drier towards the end. The finish is long and juicy.
