This is a 17 year old single malt from an Orkney distillery that is not named, bottled by Van Wees in its The Ultimate range. It was distilled on 14 February 2006 and bottled in May 2023 at 46%, without chill filtration or added colour.
The whisky matured in a refill Oloroso sherry butt. It comes from a series of casks numbered DRU17/A65-23, -26 and -27.
The nose is gently smoky with salty sea air, honey and dried fruit, including raisins, walnuts and orange peel. On the palate there is toffee, spicy oak and stewed pear, with a little smoke and leather, then nuts and cocoa. The finish is long and soft, with salinity, light smoke, cinnamon and nutmeg.
