Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye 2019 is a straight rye whiskey from Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, Kentucky, and part of the 2019 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. It is bottled at cask strength, uncut and unfiltered.
It is named after Thomas H. Handy, the New Orleans bartender who is credited with popularising the Sazerac cocktail, which was originally made with rye.
The nose shows toffee, fig cake, candied fruit and a spice backbone of cinnamon and clove. The palate is powerful and lush, with mint, cinnamon, clove and dark fruit over a bold rye grain base. The finish is long and warm, with allspice, coconut, nutmeg and lingering rye spice.
