Togouchi 9 Year Old is a Japanese blend of malt and grain whiskies from the Sakurao Brewery and Distillery in Hiroshima, in a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV.
The range is known for maturing in a former railway tunnel cut into the mountains of Akiota, where the temperature stays cool and constant and the humidity is high.
The nose is fresh and citrus-led, with yellow plum, orange peel and a grassy, herbal note. The palate is smooth and light-bodied, with honey, vanilla and subtle dry nuttiness, and a faint touch of peat smoke. The finish is clean and lasting, with a little spice and a crisp mineral edge.
