Togouchi Pure Malt is a Japanese vatted malt, made by blending selected whiskies that are all malt. It comes from Sakurao Brewery & Distillery (formerly Chugoku Jozo) in Hiroshima and is bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky is aged in a disused railway tunnel at Togouchi, in Akiota, Hiroshima Prefecture, where the temperature stays around 14°C and the humidity is high.
The nose brings toasted malt, vanilla cream and apple peel, with faint peat smoke, hazelnut and sweet oak. On the palate are butterscotch, ripe orchard fruit and honeyed cereal, then earthy peat, nutmeg and oak spice. The finish is medium in length, with gentle smoke, sweet grain and dry oak.
