Vat 69 is a blended Scotch whisky, and this is an old bottling from the 1970s with a wax seal. The blend contains roughly 40 different malt and grain whiskies, with about one-third malt in most versions.
Vat 69 was created by William Sanderson and Son. William Sanderson prepared 100 different blends, and when experts sampled them in 1882 they judged cask No. 69 the best. The family bought Glengarioch Distillery in 1884.
It is mid-gold in the glass, with a syrupy sweet nose and crisp woody notes. The palate turns to peat smoke and tannic wood, and the finish is short, smoky and warm.
