Wayne Gretzky Ginger Beer Cask Rye is the fourth release in the Craftsmanship Series from Wayne Gretzky Estates in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. It is made from 100% Ontario malted rye, aged for 7 years in once-used bourbon and virgin oak barrels, and bottled at 50% ABV.
For the finish, ex-bourbon barrels were seasoned for 44 days with house-made fermented ginger beer. The rye then spent 12 weeks in those casks.
The nose combines toasted oak, elderflower, lemonade and lime peel with ripe pear and soft ginger spice. On the palate, sweet ginger, candied orange zest and lime lead into stone fruit and gentle baking spices. The finish is long and warming, with sweet ginger root and citrus zest.
