This is a 15 year old Caol Ila from Islay, distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2022 for the renewed Single Cask series from Wemyss Malts, under its Apothecary's Notebook label. It comes from a single hogshead that yielded 268 bottles at 57.2% ABV, the equivalent of the old imperial 100 proof.
The nose is described as Lapsang Souchong tea, smoked ham and bruised peppermint leaves. On the palate, liquorice, dried herbs and a touch of lively citrus come through the wood smoke, and the finish holds blackcurrant with a spicy edge.
