West Cork Peat Charred Cask Irish Single Malt

West Cork Peat Charred Cask is an Irish single malt from West Cork Distillers, and one of the first bottlings in the Glengarriff series, launched in early 2018. The whisky is matured in sherry casks, then finished in casks charred with peat. The distillers char their casks with a device built with the help of a local blacksmith, and the peat-charred finish gives an earthy smokiness. On the nose there is orange oil, dry earth and fried banana, with a little warming cinnamon. The palate brings meaty malt, quince and ripe pear. The finish is peppery oak and dried apricot, with distant smoke.
