Westward American Single Malt is made by House Spirits Distillery in Portland, Oregon, entirely from Pacific Northwest malted barley. It is bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle and won a Double Gold medal at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The process starts with an ale brewed from two-row malted barley and ale yeast, fermented slowly at low temperature. The wash is double pot distilled and aged in new charred American oak barrels. The nose has peach, lemon, vanilla cream and honey, with toffee, hazelnut and dark roast coffee. The palate moves from creamed honey and caramel to dried cherries, milk chocolate and baking spice. The finish is medium to long, with oak, brown sugar and butterscotch.
