WhistlePig 10 Year Old is a straight rye whiskey bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof), in a 70cl bottle. It was the first major release from the Shoreham, Vermont distillery, which was founded in 2007.
The rye spends ten years in new American oak. The grain for this bottling is distilled in Canada, while ageing, blending and bottling take place on the Vermont farm.
The nose has cinnamon sticks, candied orange peel, fresh dill and toasted rye bread, with caramel and mint. On the palate, clove, nutmeg and black pepper come first, then vanilla fudge, dark fruit and charred oak. The finish carries baking spice, toffee and drying oak.
