WhistlePig PiggyBack 100% Rye is a six year old straight rye whiskey made from a 100% rye mash bill, bottled at 96.56 proof (48.28%) in a 75cl bottle. It was distilled in Alberta, Canada, then aged in new American oak barrels and hand bottled at WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont.
It was the final creation of the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, designed in 2018 for cocktails. The pig on the label wears a Stetson as a tribute to him.
The nose has fresh cinnamon, black pepper, tangerine and grapefruit zest with a hint of caraway. The palate is spicy, with cocoa, cardamom and cured leather over clean rye grain and citrus, and the finish is long with baking spices, vanilla and citrus.
