Wire Works (White Peak Distillery) 2018 Berry Bros. & Rudd (60.9%)

Wire Works is a single malt from White Peak Distillery in Derbyshire, bottled by Berry Bros. & Rudd at 60.9%. The distillery is housed in a former Victorian wire factory and run by Claire and Max Vaughan, who also make gin. They use live brewer's yeast from the nearby Thornbridge Brewery, which they credit for some of the fruity aromas in their whisky. For this bottling the cask was left in smoke after charring, adding to the fruity distillate dense oak and layered smoke. Tasting notes mention wood smoke and peat smoke, toasted almonds with their skins, spice and a hint of nectarine.
