Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Malt Whiskey is made from 51% malt rather than a full malt mash, and it is aged in new charred oak barrels. It comes in a 75cl bottle at 90.4 proof.
The lower malt content is said to bring out the nutty character of the original Woodford Reserve, and it is aimed at bourbon drinkers.
The nose combines soft nuts, light caramel and milk chocolate with apple, dried and tropical fruit, brown spice, mint and toasted oak. The palate has dark chocolate, caramel-coated nuts, cocoa powder and toasted coconut. The finish is nutty, with subtly sweet chocolate malt.
