This is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Woodford Reserve, in a 37.5cl bottle at 45.2% ABV.
The mash bill follows a pre-Prohibition style, with 53% rye, a nod to the original rye whiskeys. Spice and tobacco lead, set among fruit, floral and sweet aromas.
On the nose it is spicy, with rye, black pepper, cedar and cassia bark, sweetened by marzipan and touched by pear, apple and almond. The palate brings clove, mint, molasses, sorghum and honey, with hints of apple and malt. The finish is long and sweetly spiced.
