Writers' Tears Double Oak (70cl, 46%)

Writers' Tears Double Oak is an Irish whiskey that combines matured single pot still with single malt. It is triple distilled and bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered and without added colouring. The whiskey matures in American bourbon casks from Kentucky and French Cognac casks from the Cognac region. The idea came from a collaboration between the Walsh family in County Carlow and the Legaret family in Cognac. American oak adds stronger, sweet vanilla notes, while French oak brings silky tannins, light sweetness and fruit. Walsh Whiskey made French oak a regular part of the Writers' Tears range with this expression in 2019. The nose combines sweet vanilla, cinnamon, ripe plum and poached pear. Juicy grapes and fresh citrus zest follow on the palate, and the finish is long, with chocolate and lingering spice.
