Yamazaki 12 Year Old is a single malt from Suntory's Yamazaki distillery, the oldest in Japan. It was launched in 1984 and is bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky is matured for at least 12 years in a combination of American white oak bourbon casks, Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and Japanese Mizunara oak casks.
The nose combines dried fruit, prune and malt with gentle honey, and the incense and sandalwood notes associated with Mizunara. The palate is round and smooth, with vanilla cream, a little cherry, winter spice and tropical fruit. The finish is of medium length, with fruit and citrus peel.
