This is a single malt from Yamazakura, distilled at the Asaka distillery in 2018 and bottled in 2023 at 57% ABV. It is a Japan exclusive made for the 10th anniversary of the Chichibu Whisky Festival, known as Matsuri.
The whisky was matured in ex-Islay peated casks and filled into 70cl bottles, 475 in all.
Yamazakura is made by Sasanokawa Shuzo, a company with roots going back to 1765. It began as a sake brewery in Fukushima Prefecture and took up whisky in the 1940s. The name combines 'yama', meaning mountains, with 'zakura', for the cherry trees of the Tohoku area.
