A.D. Laws San Luis Valley Rye is a Colorado rye whiskey bottled at 47.5% ABV (100 proof) in a 75cl bottle. It is made from 100% heirloom San Luis Valley rye, a semi-wild strain grown at 7,500 to 8,000 feet, and the mash bill is 95% rye and 5% heirloom barley.
The spirit is aged for at least four years in new 53-gallon charred oak barrels.
The nose is floral and perfumed, with baking spice, orange oil and a touch of black tea. The palate brings salted toffee, black tea, stewed fig and sweet mint, with flashes of tropical fruit such as green mango and melon. The finish is lingering and peppery, with green peppercorn, mint and a dry, smoky oak backbone.
