A. Overholt Monongahela Mash is a four-year-old straight rye whiskey, bottled at 47.5% (95 proof) in a 75cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered.
The mashbill is corn-free: 80% rye and 20% malted barley, following the original Monongahela-style recipe of Abraham Overholt. The rye is grown in the Monongahela Valley of western Pennsylvania, and the whiskey is distilled at the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Kentucky.
Tasting notes describe molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg and anise on the nose. The palate brings rye bread, brown butter, honeysuckle and a peppery bite, and the finish is long and warming, with clove and dry oak.
