Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask Matured is a Speyside single malt from the Aberlour Distillery, in a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV.
The whisky spends sixteen years in two kinds of cask: first-fill American oak ex-Bourbon barrels and seasoned Spanish Oloroso sherry butts. The bourbon wood brings vanilla and gentle oak, while the sherry adds dark fruit and spice.
On the nose there are dark red berries, spiced plum pudding, toasted nuts, leather and butterscotch. The palate is smooth and viscous, with raisin, fig, dark cherry, ginger and nutmeg. The finish is long and warming, ending dry with oak, sweet tobacco and cocoa.
