Akashi Blue Japanese Blended Whisky (70cl, 40%)

Akashi Blue is a Japanese blended whisky from Eigashima Shuzo, made by marrying malt and grain whiskies. It matures for around two years in American white oak casks that previously held shochu, then receives a finish in sherry and bourbon casks. It is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle, chill-filtered and with colouring added. The nose is mild and fruity, with green apple, orange peel and honey, then vanilla, light oak spice and white pepper. The palate is soft and balanced, with pale fruit, vanilla, cereal and gentle sweetness, plus pepper, cinnamon and a faint hint of smoke. The finish is medium to long, with fruity and woody tones.
