Akashi White Oak is a Japanese whisky from Eigashima Distillery in Akashi City, near Kobe, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750 ml bottle. The company, founded in 1888, is best known for sake and shochu, and began making whisky in 1984.
It is made with barley imported from Scotland, mashed and distilled in pot stills, then aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Whisky is made for only two months of each year.
The aroma is malty and citrusy, with black cherry, toffee and oak. Vanilla and pine nuts lead the palate, followed by a long, malty finish.
