AMAHAGAN World Malt Edition No.1 is a Japanese blended malt from Nagahama Distillery in Shiga, the first release in its series, in a 70cl bottle at 47% ABV. It is not chill filtered and has no added colouring.
It combines imported malt whiskies with malt made at Nagahama itself, distilled since the distillery opened in 2016. It won a gold medal at the 2023 International Wine & Spirit Competition.
The nose is malty and sweet, with vanilla, honeyed cereal and citrus peel. The palate has grainy sweetness, gentle oak, ginger and cinnamon, and the finish is medium in length, with drying tannin and a wisp of smoke.
