Ampersand Vinea is an 8 year old American rye whiskey from Ampersand Whiskey, bottled at 50% ABV.
It spends its eight years in new charred American oak barrels, where it takes on oak tannins along with caramel and vanilla character. The rye spice is kept, tempered by rounded wood and a brightness of fruit.
The nose combines ripe orchard fruit, honeyed caramel, toasted vanilla bean, baking spice, cedar and dried citrus peel, with subtle sage and rosemary. The palate starts with cream caramel and brown sugar, then cracked black pepper, clove and allspice, with toasted almond and cedar. The finish is long and warming.
