Ardbeg 10 Year Old is an Islay single malt from the distillery on the island's south coast. It spent ten years in American oak casks that previously held bourbon, and it is bottled at 46% without chill-filtration, in a 70cl bottle.
Its dense peat is kept in balance by a bright freshness of citrus.
The nose brings peat smoke, lemon, sea spray and black pepper over malt and vanilla. The palate is oily and direct, with smoked peat, candied lemon, coffee, tar and a touch of salt. The finish is long, smoky and iodine-led, with a hint of espresso and liquorice.
