This is the Ardbeg 17 Year Old, an official distillery bottling of Islay single malt at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is no longer produced, and this bottle was filled in 2002.
The nose is soft and quiet, with fresh almond milk, green tea and a little butter ahead of the peat smoke, followed by seashells, waxed paper and graphite oil. On the palate it is more medicinal and buttery, with tobacco, overripe apples and a touch of pine resin. The finish is medium long, mildly peaty and a little salty.
