This is a 30 year old Islay single malt from Ardbeg, distilled in 1963 and bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It was one of the last releases made by Allied Distillers before Glenmorangie took over the distillery in 1997.
The bottling was drawn from just 29 casks.
The nose offers smoked teas, including lapsang souchong and pu-erh, with pipe tobacco, a little marmalade and a subtle earthiness. The palate brings lime tree tea, mint, rosemary, hawthorn, liquorice allsorts and a hint of smoky bubblegum. The finish is relatively short and elegant.
