This is an Ardbeg from Islay, distilled in 1966 and matured in a hogshead. It was bottled in 1987 for Moon Import at 46% ABV, in a 70cl bottle, and the outturn was 264 bottles.
It comes from the series of Ardbeg casks bottled by Moon Import with the Birds label.
The nose has soot, apple peelings, orange zest and linseed oil, then mint, eucalyptus, damp earth, pu-erh tea and camphor. The palate is fruity, with oranges and overripe red apples, alongside kippers, anchovies and green olives. The finish is long, with almonds, brine, lemon marmalade, ashes and tar.
