This is an Islay single malt from Ardbeg, distilled in 1974 and bottled in 1991 by Gordon & MacPhail in its Connoisseurs Choice range. It is in a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV. 1974 is regarded by many as the last vintage of the old, peaty style of Ardbeg. After that year a larger share of barley came from outside the distillery's own maltings, and the on-site maltings closed in 1977. The nose is peaty, tarry and smoky with a maritime edge: smoked fish, tarry ropes, putty, diesel oil, cold tobacco smoke and smoked oysters. The palate is sweet and rounder, with marzipan, resin, cough syrup, kippers and salt. The finish is long.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
