Ardbeg Vintage Y2K is a 24 year old Islay single malt that marks the year 2000 as the start of the distillery's modern revival, following the Glenmorangie Company's purchase in 1997. It was released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee.
The spirit was distilled on Ardbeg's old stills and matured in ex-bourbon casks and hand-selected Amontillado sherry casks, the style of sherry Dr Bill Lumsden favours.
The nose is deep, pungent and spicy, with creamy toffee, blackcurrant, creosote, coal tar soap and leather. The palate is powerful and smoky, with coal tar, woodsmoke and bonfire embers, and the finish is long, with menthol, eucalyptus, linseed oil and charcoal.
